Plein Air and Preservation
Late May is the time of year that dozens of landscape artists descend on Waxahachie, setting up their easels around town for several days of painting en plein air. For several years the event known as Paint Historic Waxahachie has taken place in conjunction with the annual Gingerbread Trail which provides tours of local historic homes. During the paint-out, some 50 artists compete for prize money and awards and offer their completed paintings for sale. Read more
Discussion and Book Signing with author Chris Meister
Join Historic Waxahachie, Inc. and the Ellis County Museum for an evening with Chris Meister, author of James Riely Gordon: His Courthouses and Other Public Architecture (2011). Mr. Meister will discuss the architect's life and accomplishments from within one of Gordon's finest works, the 1895 Ellis County Courthouse. Refreshments and a book signing will be at the museum after the discussion. March 5, 2012 at 7pm.

There have been two major preservation projects in Waxahachie within the last decade that have forced the-powers-that-be to make some difficult decisions concerning historic, but racially-sensitive artifacts associated with each structure. Well it Looks like a 'W'
A few months back I was working on a logo for a City-related project, trying to come up with a stylized Waxahachie "W". While looking over some old photos it suddenly struck me that there were what appeared to be several W-shaped formations in the Ellis County Courthouse. Since the courthouse sits in the middle of downtown Waxahachie wondered if this was an intentional design or mere coincidence.
